Supplementary Life Insurance

Police Welfare Fund Insurances Ltd has arranged a facility for members to purchase Life Insurance cover at very competitive market rates. The scheme offers low cost Life Insurance and Vital Care cover to protect your dependants in the event of your death or diagnosis of a critical illness. Further information is available by ringing our free phone 0800 500 122.

Life Insurance Cover
Low cost protection for members and their spouse/partner. Simply choose the level of cover required. A Terminal Illness Benefit is included - on diagnosis from an approved medical practitioner that death is likely to occur within 12 months, the full death benefit will be payable. The only exclusion for Life Insurance benefit is suicide within thirteen months after the commencement date of cover or date of last reinstatement or increase of cover.  In the event of a claim, the amount of Vital Care benefit paid will reduce the death benefit by the same amount. In the event that a Terminal Illness Benefit is claimed under the Life Cover in respect of the same Critical Illness, the remaining death benefit will be payable.

Vital Care Cover. A lump-sum cash payment when you need it most, to ensure that a crisis of health does not become a crisis of wealth.

Critical illness can strike anyone at any time. But these days, a critical illness no longer leads to inevitable death. This means that life cover alone - regardless of how much you may have - can be of no support during the weeks and months of convalescence and recovery. Indeed, many people recover from life-threatening illnesses only to find that their savings are depleted and their earning power is severely reduced. At that point, a health crisis becomes a wealth crisis, adding even more stress to patients and their families. But while no one can predict a health crisis, it is possible to protect yourself from the financial hardship that can follow a critical illness. That's the protection available from Vital Care.

Vital Care Offers Vital Financial Cover On The First Diagnosis Of A Critical Illness.

The critical illnesses and conditions covered by Vital Care are:

  • Heart Attack

  • Stroke

  • Coronary artery surgery

  • Heart valve replacement

  • Surgery to Aorta

  • Pulmonary aorta hypertension

  • Major organ transplant

  • Kidney failure

  • Critical cancer

  • Multiple sclerosis

  • Parkinson's disease

  • Alzheimer's disease

  • Muscular Dystrophy

  • Paralysis

  • Blindness

  • Major Burns

  • Loss of the use of two limbs OR the loss of the use of one limb and the sight of one eye

  • Lung disease

  • Accidentally acquired HIV

  • Coma

  • Major head trauma

  • Loss of Independent existence

  • Liver disease

  • Loss of Hearing

  • Loss of speech

Vital Care Cover Also Offers Other Benefits And Options.
The costs of surviving a life-threatening critical illness include expensive medical treatment during and after the illness as well as the costs of specialist care and the vital therapy and convalescence that follows. The exact costs are obviously unknown but you can be certain they will be substantial. On the first diagnosis of one of the many common conditions covered by your Vital Care Cover, you will receive a lump-sum cash payment - the amount of cover you have selected - that you can use, as you wish, to cover the costs of your medical treatment and recovery. And then you can do whatever you like, with whatever is left, to help achieve the security and peace of mind you deserve. At that point, your Vital Care cover ends.

A Guaranteed funeral benefit.
If you should die suddenly during the term of the policy, and if a Vital Care benefit is not payable, your Vital Care Cover will provide a guaranteed funeral benefit of $5,000.  The policy document contains explicit and common-sense definitions and exclusions for the stated critical illnesses. Details may be obtained from Police Welfare Fund Insurances Ltd. The standard exclusions, however, are only those you would expect: addiction to liquor or drugs, self- inflicted injuries, and injuries from war.

Your Life Insurance protection and Vital Care Cover are valid 24 hours-a-day, anywhere in the world.

If an insured member or their spouse/partner ceases to be insured by reason of withdrawal from the Police Welfare Fund Ltd, he/she may, within one month, apply to AIA and have issued on his/her life, an individual policy of insurance for benefits equivalent to those offered at the time of withdrawal. The individual policy will be subject to the terms and conditions currently being offered by AIA to the general public on such policies of insurance.
