The New Zealand Police Association is a voluntary service organisation representing 98% of all sworn police across all ranks and 92% of all non sworn members of Police.

The Association has existed for over 60 years and has traditionally enjoyed very high levels of membership to those eligible to belong. Membership is generally very active and is widely represented across numerous forums within the Association structure. This is considered a significant and desirable feature of the Association and critical to the maintenance of its ability to speak and act credibly on behalf of its members.

Membership of the Police Association is open to all employees of the New Zealand Police. Membership of the Police Association entitles members and their families to also join the Police Welfare Fund.

How to Join ?

To join the Police Association or enquire about the services available: 
Phone 0800-500-122, e-mail to Membership@policeassn.org.nz or obtain a membership form from our website.

When your completed membership forms are received by National Office, the Membership Coordinator will contact you by way of a letter. This ensures you are fully aware of the benefits and services you have signed up for, what additional services and benefits can be provided, and ensures the necessary arrangements are made to commence the payment of subscriptions.

Key Member Benefits

The Police Association subscription provides members with:

  • advice and support of the district/area and regional committee structure;
  • advice and support from the Association’s four field officers;
  • access to advice and services provided by Industrial Section at National Office;
  • the ability to apply for legal assistance;
  • a copy of the monthly Police Association NEWSLETTER;
  • the option of joining the Police Welfare Fund.

Police Association members can then join the Welfare Fund.

IPA & NZ Fire and Defence Members
Non-member access, to make holiday home bookings is available only to 
  • IPA members
  • NZ Firefighters Welfare Society members and
  • NZ Department of Defence employees

IPA and Defence members can apply by clicking on the "Members Only" button on the left and click again on the area titled "Overseas guests and Non-Members click here" This will open an application form which you can complete and submit online.

Please Note: In order for your application to be processed we will require a copy of your appropriate ID as follows. (Your ID will be reviewed annually).

  • Your IPA Membership Card  or
  • Your NZ Defence ID card

Payment of Subscriptions
Payment will be made fortnightly directly from the member’s salary for sworn & non sworn members.
