JJ Taylor - 2000
JJ joined the Police in September 1971; initially posted to Dunedin. After working in various positions, including relieving at country stations in Otago, he was promoted to Sergeant in 1978 and transferred to Christchurch. He then moved to Mosgiel in 1981, then onto a Sergeant position at Porirua in 1989 and finally to Police National Headquarters in Wellington.
JJ became an Association Activist in 1972 when elected as Dunedin Committee Chairman. He continued to serve on various Local District Committees usually as the Chair, wherever he worked.
JJ was first elected to the Association National Management Committee (later the Board of Directors) in 1978 and again in 1980. JJ was elected as Vice-President of the Association in 1984 and remained in this position until his retirement from Police in 2000.
JJ was also a Welfare Fund Board Member for most of the time he was active nationally, and has also attended every Police Association Conference since 1978.
JJ continues to serve Police Association members after his retirement, becoming the Lower North Island Field Officer covering Central and Wellington Districts, the Police College and Police National Headquarters.
JJ was awarded Life Membership in 2000.
