Steve Hinds - 2010

Steve joined Police in 1976, working in the greater Wellington area for the duration of his career in both the Uniform Branch and the CIB. In 1987 he was elected Conference Delegate for the Kapiti-Mana District, remaining in this role until his election as President of the Association in 1989.

As President, Steve was heavily involved in representing Police on Superannuation. On 30 March, 1990, Steve led 1173 Police Association members from throughout New Zealand on a march through the streets of Wellington to Parliament. He also oversaw the amalgamation of the Traffic Safety Service into Police in 1992. Steve retired as President in 1995.

Steve is currently a Superintendent of Police at Police National Headquarters, and is still a member of the New Zealand Police Association to this day. He has also been a Trustee of the Police and Families Credit Union for over 8 years.

Steve was awarded Life Membership at the 75th Anniversary Police Association Conference in October 2010.
