Keep Cops In Auckland Campaign
The Police Association resolved today to launch a public campaign to retain Auckland’s experienced police after a meeting of 500 police officers.
Furthermore, the meeting resolved to put Police Minister, George Hawkins on notice that the government needs to understand that a lack of experienced staff is aggravating policing problems.
“Our members are frustrated that they can’t do their job properly and are urging the Minister to implement a plan to solve Auckland’s resourcing problems,” said NZ Police Association President, Greg O’Connor.
Retaining staff is part of the solution and we are asking for a $2500 payment for every member who was in Auckland on the 1 July last year and 1 July this year. Existing police need an incentive to remain in Auckland.
The government needs to provide the resources that will allow Auckland’s police to do their job properly.
