No To Firearms But Yes To Better Protection

NZPA | Fri October 10th, 2003

Following the release of the UMR Survey which showed the majority of police do not want to be armed, the Police Association Conference today demanded better protection for frontline police, particularly the availability of covert stab-proof vests.

The survey showed that both the police and the public believe having an unarmed police gives us a positive point of difference with other world police forces.

However, the increase in the number of incidents where police are required to deal with violent, often P affected offenders has brought about a call for stab-proof vests to be made available to police officers who request them.
