Police Association Disappointed With Prime Minister’s Comments On Lack Of Police Comms Centre Submission

NZPA | Wed December 15th, 2004

“An extension on our submission on the review of Police Comms Centres was applied for and granted by the Secretariat of the Review Committee earlier last week, well before the official deadline,” Association President, Greg O’Connor said today.

Mr O’Connor was responding to the Prime Minister’s comments that the Police Association had not bothered to make a submission.

“The Police Association are greatly disappointed by the Prime Minister’s inference that we had not bothered to make a submission on the review of Police Comms Centres. A simple question to the Minister should have revealed a submission was in fact intended and an extension had been granted,” Mr O’Connor said.

Mr O’Connor said, “We have a committed reference group of Comms Centre staff who needed time to analyse the Terms of Reference and information gathered from our overseas sources. We asked for an extension as the period of time for submissions would not have given justice to what is a very important issue for our members.”
