NZPA | Mon July 8th, 2002

"On behalf of all our members, our deepest heartfelt sympathy goes to Melanie and Campbell Taylor for the tragic loss of their husband and father, Duncan Taylor. Our support also goes to Jeanette Park and all members affected by this tragedy," Police Association President, Greg O’Connor said today.

Mr O’Connor was referring to the tragic slaying of Detective Constable, Duncan Taylor and the shooting of Detective Constable Jeanette Park in rural Rongatea on Friday 5th July, 2002.

"This type of senseless loss affects all police deeply," Mr O’Connor said. "We have been approached by many of our members and members of the public asking how they can help the Taylor family, so the Police Association have set up the Duncan Taylor Memorial Trust and donations can be made at any police station or local BNZ branch. Cheques should be made out to the "Duncan Taylor Memorial Trust " and can also be forwarded to the Police Association, PO Box 12344, Wellington."

"I have the duty and honour of representing our members at Duncan’s funeral tomorrow, together with six representatives from the Police Associations throughout Australia who will attend in their respective uniforms as a sign of solidarity for an officer who has been slain on duty." said Mr O’Connor.

The funeral will be at 1.00pm at the Catholic Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Broadway Avenue, Palmerston North followed by a private burial. The wake will be held at the RSA, which is opposite the cathedral.

President Greg O’Connor was in Fielding over the weekend, where the Police Association, alongside Police management are providing on-ground support to Duncan's family, Jeanette Park and other members affected by the tragedy.
