A key measure the Government has set for Police is to earn and keep the trust and confidence of New Zealanders.

With health and safety getting priority attention in the state sector these days, and rightly so, it’s pleasing and not surprising that Police has been so quick to respond to staff concerns about the new model i-cars, above.

The Police Association has adopted a Māori name, Te Aka Hāpai, to use in conjunction with its NZPA name.

No frontline response police officer leaves the station without it. Their SRBA vest is their mobile toolkit, their protection, their comms station… and a place to carry their notebook.

Later this month, the IPCA will be releasing the fifth review in nearly 20 years into the problem of fleeing drivers. Will it provide answers? We don’t know. In the meantime, our members at the coalface of the issue will continue to juggle the demands of Police policies, curbing criminal behaviour and meeting public expectations.
