The Police Association provides a range of services to both serving and retired police officers and their families and Police employees. Our goal is to look after the people who keep us all safe.

We have a team of more than 60 people who work at our national office in Wellington and out in the field throughout New Zealand, providing support and advice to members.

Senior Employment Advisor Districts - Relief

We are seeking a professional, member-focused Senior Employment Advisor to join our team based in the Wellington national office. This is a dynamic role where you will provide support and relief across the country. This role will require travelling across the country from time to time to support members who need in person representation where local Senior Employment Advisors cannot support that work. 

The majority of your work will involve:

  • Providing industrial advice and employment representation to Police Association members
  • Managing a broad range of employment relations matters, including disciplinary processes, performance management and grievances
  • Supporting members through complex and often sensitive situations. 

You will also play an important role in promoting and delivering services available through the Police Welfare Fund and the Police Credit Union to members. 

This is both a challenging and highly rewarding position, offering regular engagement with members and police management. You will be supported by the Association's employment and legal team providing specialist expertise when required. 

This role may be for you if you are:

  • Professional, empathetic and committed to achieving strong outcomes for members
  • Knowledgeable in New Zealand employment law, agreements and principles
  • Experienced and confident in handling disciplinary processes, performance management issues and employment issues
  • Acquainted with the resolution of grievances and employment relationship problems

The successful applicant would need to live within the Wellington region as the role is based in our Wellington national office.

Senior Employment Advisor - National Office

About the role

You will based in the NZPA Wellington City Office and be part of a team of employment relations specialists providing high-quality advice, support, and representation to NZPA members.

Working collaboratively, you will deliver a broad range of employment relations services, supporting both individual members and wider organisational matters. You will also provide specialist guidance and support to the NZPA’s District Senior Employment Advisors across the country.

The role involves managing diverse member enquiries, ranging from interpretation of employment conditions and entitlements (such as allowances) through to engaging directly with Police to resolve complex employment issues impacting individuals or the wider membership.

Success in this position requires strong employment relations expertise, sound judgement, and the ability to build effective relationships while advocating on behalf of members.

About you 

We are looking for someone to join the team on a permanent full-time basis. This role might be for you if you have proven experience in;

  • Resolution of grievances and employment relationship problems;

  • Employment rights, agreements, and principles;

  • Disciplinary processes and performance management;

  • Negotiation and facilitation skills;

  • Ability to assess problems and exercise sound judgement

And you have:

  • Industrial bargaining and union skills and experience;

  • Self-motivation/management, initiative and good organisational skills;

  • Advanced inter-personal and written communication skills;

  • A suitable tertiary qualification in Human Resources or equivalent employment relations experience is desirable;

  • A solid understanding and empathy with Police and the environment in which they work is desirable.

Executive Group Assistant (Fixed Term)

About you 

We’re looking for a confident executive assistant who will support our senior leaders in managing the impact of internal and external stakeholders, customers, employees and Board members on their day-to-day activities. This is a true EA role where you will be able to have your fingers in every pie including office support and being involved in key projects. Ideally this person will be able to start in early August. 

We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, has great time management skills and is willing to and get stuck into whatever is required - no job will be too big or too small. 

About the job

This is a 7-8 month fixed term role to cover Parental Leave. In this role you will be required to provide support and administrative duties to senior leaders; this includes organising meetings, travel, accommodation as and when required. 

You will be assisting the Employment teams and Legal team with organising of training across the country and be the first point of contact in providing legal assistance when required. You will be responsible for minute taking in key meetings. 

We are looking for someone who has a bit of event planning experience as well as the great administration skills where they can organise different priorities on the go.
