We are looking for an employment lawyer to join our Wellington team, who has understanding and empathy with Police.

The NZ Police Association provides a range of services to police staff (both currently serving and retired) and their families. We have a team of more than 60 people in various roles dedicated to providing exceptional service to our members.
About the role
You will be based in our Wellington city national office. This position works with other employment lawyers and employment advisors to deliver a wide range of advice, support, and representation to NZPA members. This role will provide legal advice and representation to the association and to members on employment matters and a variety of industrial issues.
We are specifically looking for someone with employment law experience, who is an enthusiastic advocate for employment rights. This role will support the legal team, the employment team and our district employment advisors.
About you
This is a new position in a well-established organisation. We are looking for someone to join the team on a permanent full-time basis, but are open to considering part-time for the right candidate. This role might be for you if you have proven experience in:
- A solid understanding and experience in employment law and public law.
- Experience in negotiations and mediation. Some litigation experience would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated and proven judgement in dealing with employment disputes
And you have:
- A law degree with 5 years’ experience, preferably employment law
- A solid understanding and empathy with Police and the environment in which they work
