The Role
We are seeking an experienced Policy and Research Lead to join our organisation based in our Wellington Office, in a full time Permanent role. It is an exciting time as this role has been redeveloped.
This role is pivotal in supporting effective campaigning and bargaining to improve members’ terms and conditions of employment. Experience in the fields of employment/industrial, health and safety, economic, policing and justice matters is desired. You will work closely with the Employment and Communications teams to deliver evidence-based insights and policy advice.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake and lead research and analysis to support NZ Police collective bargaining and advocacy priorities.
- Design and oversee high-quality research programmes, including collaboration with academic institutions where appropriate, ensuring ethical standards and methodological rigour (e.g. Assessing the current state of PTSD within the NZ Police population).Forecast workforce needs and assess the impact of pay changes on recruitment, retention, and morale.
- Manage projects, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met.
- Translate research and analysis into clear, actionable advice to support the Employment and Communications teams.
- Build relationships with unions, employer groups, government agencies, other academics in the field and members.
About You
We’re looking for someone with:
- Demonstrated background in labour or employment policy, industrial relations, collective bargaining, Health and Safety, economics pay equity initiatives with relevant public-sector or private-sector employment environments.
- A strong understanding of employment rights, agreements and principles.
- Analytical skills and experience in data evaluation and policy impact assessment.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Political awareness and empathy for the policing environment.
- A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in employment relations or related fields.
