Welcome Taz Brown

Taz Brown has recently joined the Police Association at the national office in Wellington as a senior employment adviser. She brings a wealth of experience from her previous role with NZ Police, where she worked as an employment specialist within the Professional Conduct team managing complex disciplinary processes. Taz’s career has been largely rooted in human resources across various government sector roles in Wellington, giving her a strong foundation in employment relations and public service values. Outside of work, Taz is a passionate fitness enthusiast who thrives on adrenaline-fuelled activities and she loves exploring the world whenever she can.

Managers, claim your $300

After a year of prodding, the Police Association has succeeded in getting Police to remind managers in the union that they are entitled to claim an overtime payment if they work an extra eight hours or more in a week. Under “duties” in the Police Managers’ Collective Employment Agreement, it states: “A manager should not be required to work 48 or more hours each week except for an “hours of work structure” on a roster… In the event that a manager works an additional 8 or more hours per week than expected or rostered to work, the manager will be entitled to an excessive hours payment of $300 gross… This payment operates alongside, not instead of the existing compensatory time off provided for in this Collective Agreement.”
