Mike McQuarrie shows the speed that earned him a place in the Interservices tournament team.

Police Touch received a late but welcome invitation to the Interservices tournament in late March.

The late call-up to play the Navy, Army and Air Force after being absent for two years did create some challenges. Police was unable to get a women’s team together and the men’s team was well short on numbers and some key talent during the March 25-27 tournament at RNZAF Base Ōhakea.

Despite this, the team quickly gelled, winning two games out of three on day one. Fatigue from a lack of numbers was the biggest factor for the last game of day one.

On the finals day, Police played Navy in the second v third place semi-final. It was a hard-fought game with Police narrowly losing after beating them the day before. Police comfortably won the third-fourth place game against Air Force.

Code co-ordinator and team captain Mike McQuarrie (Canterbury) and Te Puhi Rudolph (Northland) were selected in the Interservices tournament team.

An invitation has already been extended to Police for the 2026 tournament, with dates and the venue to be confirmed.

Final results: Army 1, Navy 2, Police 3, Air Force 4.
