A new job can change more than your salary. Pay cycles, hours and commuting costs may also affect your household budget. Planning ahead can make the move easier for you and your family.

Your superannuation

If you belong to the Police Superannuation Scheme (PSS) or Government Superannuation Fund (GSF), contact your scheme about your balance, contributions and withdrawal options. Your membership depends on your circumstances, so check your scheme rather than relying on your Police start date alone.

If you want advice about what to do with your savings, speak with a qualified financial adviser. NZPA members can access a free financial consultation through Police Financial Planning and Naked Finance.

KiwiSaver

If you have not joined KiwiSaver, a change of employer is a good time to consider how you will save for retirement. Eligible employers contribute to employees’ KiwiSaver savings. You can generally withdraw your savings at 65, with earlier withdrawals possible in certain circumstances, including a first home purchase or significant financial hardship. Contact your KiwiSaver provider about your balance or withdrawal options.
