The information below details the summary of changes to the Police Health Plan policy, effective 01 July 2025
1. The following benefits, as agreed, have been amended in the Policy:
- Increase to the Daily bed charge (overnight fees) surgical benefit from $1,050 per night to $1,100 per night
- Addition of new GP specialist consult benefit to basic and plus plans.
- Inclusion of ‘Operating theatre fees’ and ‘Other hospital fees or costs approved by us’ in the Other Hospital Fees benefit description
- Renamed Pre and Post-Operative Consultations benefit to Pre and Post-Operative Diagnostics, Consults or Tests. Descriptive text updated.
- Addition of new discretionary benefit: Breast reduction surgery
- Addition of new discretionary benefit: Bariatric surgery
- CT/MRIScan and PET Scan benefits have been merged into the Imagingbenefit
- RegisteredNurse benefit has been expanded to include Registered Paramedic. Updated benefit description.
- Home Aid after Surgery benefit description updated to specify activities of daily living as covered under this benefit.
- Sleep Study benefit description updated to’ referral from a Specialist’.
- Removal of Infertility Treatment benefit
- Addition of Obstetrics loyalty benefit for plus plan
- All references to ‘x-rays’ have been amended to ‘imaging’ (not including the Imaging benefit).
2. The following exclusions, as agreed, have been introduced or amended in the Policy:
- The following Exclusions have been amended:
- Acute hospital treatment [1]
- Any surgical, medical or dental appliances or equipment [3]
- Implantation of teeth or costs of implants and surgery designed to assist or allow the implementation of orthodontic services [14]
- Mental health services except as specifically covered in this policy…[16]
- Refractive surgery for correction of short sight or long sight..[18]
- Any costs related to, or incurred as a consequence of, healthcare services provided by any person outside NZ except as agreed by us [26]
- Treatment required due to an accident [27]
The following Exclusions have been introduced:
- Infertility [2]
- Unapproved healthcare services and technologies, pharmaceuticals, or medical procedures…[24]
3. The following terms and definitions, as agreed, have been introduced or amended in the Policy:
- Excess
- Applies to all surgical procedures except those that expressly exclude an excess in this policy
- Alterations to your cover
- You will be required to complete a medical declaration to assist us assess your application. We may accept or decline the application.
- Change to wording submitting ‘claim form’ prompts to the ‘Health Plan Portal’.
- Addition of ‘when submitting the claim through the Health Plan Portal’ for How to make a claim for basic or plus cover
- Addition of the following text under Claimconditions:
- ‘If your claim might be covered by more than one of the benefits in the cover table, your claim will be assessed against the benefit that is most directly applicable to your claim. Once we have paid your claim under that benefit, we will not pay a claim for the same treatment under a different benefit.’
- Addition of new GP definition
- Addition of GP, Registered Dietician, Registered Paramedic, Registered Podiatrist to the Health Professional definition
- Addition of new Registered Paramedic definition
- Amended the Registered Osteopath definition
- Addition of new Specialist definition
