Susie Staley
Chair
Susie joined the board as chair in 2020. A lawyer with wide knowledge of property, commercial, trust and estate law, she is also an experienced company director who brings understanding of governance and the difficulties faced by organisations. In 2014, Susie was made a member of New Zealand Order of Merit for services to governance and business.
Steve Watt
Director
Senior Sergeant Steve Watt has been with Police for 25 years and is team leader of Road Policing for Otago Lakes Central. He brings 13 years’ experience of Police Association operations to the presidency as well as a high level of business acumen and professionalism.
He says he is passionate about protecting association members and achieving the best outcomes for them. “I will always put the interests of members first.”
Sid Miller
Director
Sid Miller is a prominent New Zealand insurance executive, best known for serving as the Chief Executive of the Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake (formerly the Earthquake Commission or EQC) from 2017 to early 2022.
Sid joined the Police Health Plan board as director in 2026.
Nathan Thomas
Director
Nathan has over 25 years' global actuarial experience in the financial services industry and close to 10 years' experience as an Appointed Actuary. In addition to being an Independent Director for Police Health Plan, Nathan is the Appointed Actuary for SBS Insurance, Elected Board Member for Swimming NZ and Elected Council Member of the NZ Society of Actuaries.
Nathan is a qualified actuary (FIA, FNZSA), member of the Institute of Directors NZ (MInstD), and has an Executive MBA and Science & Commerce degrees from Victoria University of Wellington (EMBA, BSc Hons, BCA).
Rob Flannagan
Director
Rob, a chartered accountant, joined the board in 2021 and chairs the Audit and Risk Committee. He was group managing director at Tower Insurance for seven years till 2013 and managing director of Guardian Trust from 1995 until 2000, as well as serving as director of group initiatives for Royal & Sun Alliance. He is a graduate of Harvard Business School and serves as a Justice of the Peace.
Paul Ormerod
Director
Paul is a Sergeant, working in road policing in the Hawkes Bay region. He is currently a Vice-President of the New Zealand Police Association and has was first elected as a regional Director in 2016. Paul is passionate about his role and representing the voice of our membership.
