The information below details the summary of changes to the Police Health Plan policy, effective 01 March 2026
1. The following benefits, as agreed, have been introduced or amended in the Policy:
- Increase to the Annual surgical limit from $200,000 per year to $500,000 per year.
- Addition of new surgical plan benefit: Chemotherapy Treatment
- Up to $30,000 per year (includes $10,000 for chemotherapy or immunotherapy drugs which are Medsafe approved but not Pharmac approved)
- Addition of new surgical plan benefit: Radiation Treatment
- Up to $60,000 per year
2. The following terms and definitions, as agreed, have been introduced or amended in the Policy:
- Amended the definition of Excess under page 12:
- the voluntary excess amount you have selected which applies for each event that results in a claim under Surgical Plan.
- When you select an excess option, the excess:
- applies to all claims under the Surgical Plan, unless the benefit being claimed says no excess applies
- applies to claims made from the date you first pay the new premium after you have selected your excess option• is deducted from the total amount we pay for each claim, in addition to any other deductibles that may apply, and
- Switching your excess option to a lower amount:
- If you choose a voluntary excess and then switch to a lower or no-excess option, a 90-day stand-down period will apply before the lower or no-excess option commences.
- The 90-day stand-down period will apply from the date of you notifying us of the switch, or the date you pay any required additional premium, whichever is later.
- The previous voluntary excess amount will still apply to claims for all pre-existing conditions, regardless of when any procedure on the condition is carried out.
- When you select an excess option, the excess:
- the voluntary excess amount you have selected which applies for each event that results in a claim under Surgical Plan.
- Amended the definition of Excess Option: the voluntary excess amount you have selected which applies for each event that results in a claim under Surgical Plan.
- Addition of new Registered Oncologist definition: a Registered Medical Practitioner who has an approved fellowship in the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists in radiation oncology.
- Addition of new Registered Radiologist definition: a Registered Medical Practitioner who has an approved fellowship in the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.
